International Workshops on MULTI-SCALE INNOVATIVE MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES.
Cetara, Amalfi Coast – May 1-5, 2013 (MIMS13) & October 28-30, 2016 (MIMS16).

  • Held at a charming little Mediterranean style hotel nestled in cliffs overlooking Mare Nostrum, it offered spectacular vistas of the Amalfi Coast and environs. How fondly I recall sitting on the balcony sipping my limoncello and watching the visual symphony of colors of those glorious sunsets over the Mediterranean Sea. The variety and depth of the Workshop program – ranging from the rigorous technical talks to those aesthetically interesting design and architectural presentations, the fellowship – both intellectual and social, the food, the wine, the old world Italian hospitality and the intimations, engendered by proximity to Vesuvius, of Stevens’ Esthétique du Mal ( “…Vesuvius had groaned for a month. It was pleasant to be sitting there, while the sultriest fulgurations, flickering, cast corners in the glass. He could describe the terror of the sound because the sound was ancient. …”). The confluence of all of these – and many more – made this one of my most memorable conferences ever.

Denis Blackmore, New Jersey Institute of Technology (USA)
  • The organization was very good — relaxed with an interesting mix of mechanics, engineering, and math talks — a great selection of speakers. The location was wonderful. Beautiful views, isolated enough that people didn’t wander off during/between talks, but with a great selection of restaurants an easy walk away. And, a wonderful organized day trip along the coast.
    Chris Larsen, Worcester Polytechnic Institute(USA)
  • It has been a very well organized workshop, with a great number of important and interesting presentations. My participation in the workshop has been a real pleasure, thanks for having organized it. I hope this workshop will become one of a long series.
Davide Bigoni, University of Trento (Italy)
  • It was an honor for me to present my work in an event of high academic value, also the location was lovely and the hospitality of the organizers was excellent.
Antonio Salzano, University of Salerno (Italy)
  • Both the organization and location were excellent. The atmosphere was ideal for the exchange of scientific ideas.
Tamer El Sayed, KAUST (Saudi Arabia)
  • The first edition of this conference attracted many outstanding speakers in an extremely collegial atmosphere. Both the quality of the presentations and the scenery/welcoming of the region and its people was, at least for me, never seen in any other conference. The organized tours to explore the coast and Pompei were a delightful added bonus to an already scientifically fulfilling week.

  • I have really enjoyed the conference concerning all points: the scientific presentations, the scientific discussions, the conference venue as well as the private get togethers.
